How to clean and sanitize your biometric device

As we continue to face the challenges of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we would like to offer you support in minimizing risk of spreading communicable viruses while using our products.

Our support

First and foremost, we urge our customer to follow the guidelines for creating and operating in a safe environment as set out by the World Health Organization and other governmental health and safety organizations. As a minimum we suggest the following, but please visit the respective websites for more information.

Operate in a safe environment

Before

Confirm that the applicant has not had recent contact with anyone infected with COVID-19 and has not been in a high-risk area. Ensure the room is well ventilated. Sanitize all hard surfaces in your work area and wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Instruct users to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and water before touching the device. If they use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, ensure that their fingers and hands are completely dry before touching the device.

During

Maintain social distancing of at least 1 meter between people. Use sanitary medical gloves (single use) to avoid contact with other people and surfaces. Wear a mask and cover your nose and mouth with your inner sleeve or a tissue when sneezing or coughing. Immediately wash your hands afterwards.

After

Instruct users to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and water after touching the device.

Gloves

It’s recommended to clean the unit at least twice a day. Before handling the device, wash your hands with soap and water. Wear a new pair of sanitary medical gloves (single use) when cleaning the unit. Once the device is cleaned, please dispose of the gloves immediately.

Sanitizing solutions

Sanitizing solutions containing Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride (also referred to as Benzalkonium Chloride) at 0.26% concentration, or wet cleaning cloths containing Benzethonium Chloride at a 0.30% concentration may be used. Home and commercial products containing these ingredients are widely available. Alternatively, we can offer a cleaning solution that was specifically developed to ensure no damage to the fingerprint scanners.

After sanitizing

After sanitizing the surface of the unit, allow time for the sanitizing product to evaporate. Alternatively, a clean microfiber cloth may be used to dry the touch surface.

No bleach

Do not apply products containing bleach or alcohol-based hand sanitizing liquids to the fingerprint scanner. This may permanently damage and affect the performance of the device.

No wipes

Do not use abrasive cloths or wipes (e.g., paper towels).

No liquid directly on unit

Do not spray liquid directly onto the unit. Always spray cleaning solution onto a soft lint-free wipe/tissue/cloth, and then use it to wipe the sensor.
